7-day family road trip to lillehammer

Looking for a family-friendly campervan holiday in Norway? This 7-day road trip starts and ends in Halden and combines history, nature, family attractions and some of Eastern Norway’s most beautiful scenery. Along the way you’ll visit Fredriksten Fortress, Eidsvoll, Hadeland Glassverk, Lillehammer, Hunderfossen Adventure Park and Hurdal Ecovillage.

Day 1: Halden

Start your adventure in Halden, home of Happycampers.

Spend the day exploring the historic fortress town. Walk the walls of Fredriksten Fortress, visit the old town and enjoy an evening ghost tour at the fortress! If you´re not ready for bed, stay in the fortress late at night to experience the light play on the fortress walls. Might be a little scary, but very cool! Find a nice spot for your campervan for the night and have a good nights sleep.

Overnight: Halden

Day 2: Halden to Eidsvoll
(Approx. 180 km, 2 hour drive)

Head north through Eastern Norway towards Eidsvoll.

Visit Eidsvollsbygningen, where Norway’s Constitution was signed in 1814.
The exhibitions bring Norwegian history to life and offer a great experience for both adults and children.

Day 3: Eidsvoll to Hadeland Glassverk
(Approx. 60 km, 1 hour drive)

Today is a shorter driving day, giving you plenty of time to explore Hadeland Glassverk.
Watch skilled glassblowers at work, browse the shops and let the children participate in creative activities.

Day 4: Hadeland to Lillehammer
(Approx. 130 km, 2 hour drive)

Follow the shores of Lake Mjøsa north towards Lillehammer.
Enjoy one of Norway’s most scenic drives before arriving in Lillehammer, famous for hosting the 1994 Winter Olympics. Visit the Norwegian Olympic Museum to get a glimpse.

Day 5: Family Fun in Lillehammer

Spend a full day enjoying some of Norway’s best family attractions.

Choose between Hunderfossen Adventure Park (with a gigantic troll), Lilleputthammer Family Park, Maihaugen Open-Air Museum or the Olympic facilities. Adventurous visitors may even try the famous Olympic bobsleigh track, depending on season and availability.

Day 6: Lillehammer to Hurdal
(Approx. 115 km, 1,5 hour drive)

Leave Lillehammer and head south towards Hurdal.

It’s the perfect place to slow down after a few active days.

Day 7: Hurdal to Halden
(Approx. 200 km, 2,5 hour drive)

Return your campervan in Halden and spend your final evening exploring the harbour area or visiting Fredriksten Fortress one last time.
